We've Arrived!

We are in the house, and with two weeks of vacation time booked off,  we've been at work - getting things done and learning more about this amazing place. I feel like we 're bringing the place back to life!

The previous owner lived here for 55 years and stopped by to make sure we figured out a couple things with the house, which was really nice.

We met our neighbours and they are super nice and incredibly knowledgable about the area. They have six horses (!) and are going to rent out our pasture this year for their cattle. I can't wait to get horse advice from them when we're ready for our own!

Here's a recap of what we've done this week:

With current water seepage in the basement, we gutted and cleaned everything possible down there on our possession date. This allows the area to dry out and reduce potential mold. Luckily the mold situation wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it would be. We'll address how to solve this problem completely soon.

Replaced the green and yellow stove and fridge (hello 70's!) with newer versions. We found a used fridge and stove, a year old and in perfect condition, through Kijiji for $300!! With everyone updating to stainless steel, we actually like the white appliances and there were lots to choose from. We also found the exact same over-the-range microwave that we had in our last house, and my dad's going help install it this weekend.

The whole kitchen needs remodelling (I've got it all figured out when we're ready!)... but at least we have a newer stove now.

Speaking of the kitchen, I ran water to find the drain was completely rusted through! Hubby replaced it, and we're good to go now!

We cut the grass with our new riding mower (found on Kijiji again for a fantastic price) and trimmed the tree-like weeds around the big trees.

Hubby cut down two trees in front of the house, so we still have privacy but a better view at the same time. He also cut down some awful looking bushes along the side of the house. Now you don't feel claustrophobic when you look out the window.

While hubby ran into the city for some items, I explored all the different areas of our property. It is still bizarre to me to think that we own all of this. Like these trees...

this field...

and this area that looks like a nature preserve.

I even found a fawn eating near the front... young with spots... no momma around but I kept my eyes open and didn't try to get close. This little guy can have his fill here… he’s safe on our property.

Daisy loves going outside and sniffing and exploring! With our furniture now in and having things set up more comfortably, she's adjusting very well. She loves looking out the window and hanging out in the sunroom with us. For such a little dog, I think she hit the jackpot here!

Needless to say, we are so happy and loving it here, and have plenty to keep us busy for a very long time!
