I FINALLY paid off my student line of credit this week!! I paid off over $9,000 in just over 5 years by putting at least $50 from every pay cheque (sometimes more, sometimes less) towards the principle, with any interest set up for automatic payment. This payment was made consciously no matter how low my pay was, where we lived, or what we were doing.
It just goes to show that no matter how little it seems to put $50 (or $100, or $20, or $10) towards debt, it DOES make a difference and you WILL pay it off.
I still have my government student loan, but that's getting chipped away at every month with a few years to go. That will be an enormous load off when that's paid off.
While I think it's great that students have trust funds, parents pay for their kid's uni/college, or students live at home and save to pay for their uni/college themselves, that isn't an option for many. To be honest, if my university had been all paid for with no strings attached I don't think I would have taken it as seriously. I made sure to get my money's worth.
Now I have an extra chunk of change each month... Yay!
